From transparent corrugated polyester to high-tech composites

LAMILUX Heinrich Strunz GmbH started manufacturing fiberglass reinforced composites back in 1954 and continued to focus on ongoing development of product properties, new manufacturing processes and applications.

Heinrich Strunz GmbH corrugated fiberglass reinforced polyester sheeting, which the company produced up to 1987, is almost legendary. It was very popular especially in the building industry, where this sheeting was mainly used for projecting roofs, separating walls, fanlights, balcony cladding, and patio roofs.

What started off as just another product became a major business opportunity for Heinrich Strunz GmbH in the fifties. At the same time a new name was introduced, which characterised the image and manufacturing philosophy of the company itself: LAMILUX – "LAMI" for the underlying production technology, laminating, and "LUX" for the transparent lighting effect of this new material.

In 1987, production changed completely to flat composite material, so-called LAMILUXplan, when a new production plant went online. To ensure consistently high quality, this material is manufactured in a continuous production process on highly-automated production lines. The capacity was extended when a new production line, plant IX, started up operations in 2001.

Today, three production lines are in operation at Rehau location. They are regarded as the most modern of their kind in Europe. The production lines, which are over 100 metres in length, were developed and constructed entirely by LAMILUX, and installed mostly by its own staff. The latest of these high-tech production lines is plant X, which is over 130 metres in length. It was built and put into operation in 2006, following a total investment of 10 million euros.
