LAMILUX expands portfolio with roof hatch for service operations
Accessing the future of flat roofs
Roofs are becoming increasingly important: whether photovoltaic systems, green roofs or technical installations – roofs are now actively used and no longer merely the top layer of a building. In particular, the flat roof has evolved into the “fifth façade” and is a key element of modern and sustainable building concepts. At the same time, growing requirements regarding energy efficiency, fire protection and building safety are significantly increasing the frequency with which roof areas are accessed.
This also raises the demands for safe and convenient roof access. Maintenance and service work must be carried out regularly – often by external specialists who do not work on roofs on a daily basis. Conventional skylights quickly reach their limits in such situations. With the new Flat Roof Access Hatch Service FE, LAMILUX is launching the first flat roof access hatch specifically designed for maintenance and service operations, combining safety, generous space and everyday practicality.
Generous roof access for everyday service work
Maintenance of photovoltaic systems, upkeep of green roofs and inspections of ventilation, smoke extraction and fire protection systems mean that flat roofs must be accessed regularly. Safe roof access therefore becomes a decisive factor for reliable building operation.
The LAMILUX Flat Roof Access Hatch Service FE has been designed precisely for this purpose. Its generous dimensions of up to 90 × 300 cm and an opening angle of 80° provide more freedom of movement than conventional skylights and allow a safe transition from the building to the roof surface. When combined with a linear staircase provided on site – for example from a stairwell – it creates a permanently usable and secure roof access point, even for service and maintenance personnel without specialised roofing experience.
An integrated battery pack also ensures a reliable power supply during power failures and emergency situations, allowing the hatch to remain operable. Thanks to the large opening area of up to 2.7 m², tools, materials or components such as photovoltaic modules or green roof cuttings can also be transported easily – often without the need for an additional crane.
Tested for the highest requirements
Safety is the central focus of the Flat Roof Access Hatch Service FE. The system meets key building regulation requirements, complies with the Machinery Directive (CE) and is designed for long-term use on frequently accessed roof areas.
Its fall-through resistance when closed in accordance with DIN 18008-6, as well as tested driving rain tightness according to DIN EN 1027 (Class E) and high resistance to wind loads according to DIN EN 12211 (Class C5) ensure that the roof access remains reliable and safe even under demanding weather conditions.
The high level of safety and performance is further supported by high-quality triple glazing, a robust aluminium frame and the thermally insulated upstand. These components provide high stability as well as excellent thermal and acoustic insulation values.
Ready for the requirements of tomorrow
Whether mandatory photovoltaic systems, increasing fire protection requirements or the growing prevalence of green roofs: legal regulations and technical standards are turning roofs into permanently used functional spaces. The LAMILUX Flat Roof Access Hatch Service FE offers a future-proof solution that can be flexibly integrated into a wide variety of building types.
The roof access hatch can therefore be used in residential buildings with accessible flat roofs and stairwells, as well as in public buildings and industrial or commercial properties. Wherever roofs need to be accessed regularly for maintenance or inspection, it provides a safe, effortless and fully compliant access solution, supporting the sustainable operation of modern buildings.
