Collaborative learning in open structures
The Grace Hopper Gesamtschule is designed as a learning and living space in which pupils are supported individually and accompanied in their personal development. At the heart of the concept is a community-based school model that strengthens independent learning, social responsibility and cooperation. The architectural structure is specifically aligned with and supports this educational guiding principle.

Architectural structure as the basis for orientation
The star-shaped new building of the Gesamtschule in Teltow near Berlin consistently translates the school’s educational concept into architecture. As its centre is an open communication area from which the individual year-group and functional areas extend. The canteen, assembly hall and double sports hall are seamlessly integrated into the basic structure of the ground floor. This creates open learning areas and short distances that encourage interaction and encounters. Learning is therefore not understood as an isolated process, but as a shared experience that is actively supported by spatial design.

Functional solutions for central usage areas
The LAMILUX Glass Skylight F100 is a key component of the open architecture and deliberately opens the space towards the sky. As an integral part of the chequerboard-patterned timber ceiling, the skylights create visual accents and reinforce the clear spatial structure of the atrium. At the same time, they impress with high quality, excellent energy efficiency and simple, time-saving installation. The skylights also contribute to fire protection as smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems, combining daylight, safety and architectural ambition in a single solution. Proof that sophisticated architecture can be realised in a functional and straightforward way.

Architectural highlight with added value for people and buildings
Natural daylight decisively shapes the atmosphere of the Grace Hopper Gesamtschule. The light-filled areas promote communication and a sense of community, turning central spaces such as the atrium into vibrant meeting points in everyday school life. At the same time, the good lighting conditions provide orientation, safety and a pleasant learning environment. In addition to their positive impact on concentration and well-being, the skylights make an important contribution to the building’s energy efficiency and also create an architectural highlight that visibly underlines the school’s open and modern approach.
