A sports project with architectural ambition
With the redevelopment of the Goethe Sports Hall, Eisenach is gaining a centre dedicated to movement and health. The newly created single-court hall not only complements the historic existing hall functionally but also stags it anew through a daylight-flooded architectural design.

A sports centre for generations
As part of the redevelopment, a new sports hall was constructed that echoes the design of the adjacent existing building. While the new hall provides modern sports areas, generous ancillary rooms and fully accessible circulation, the listed historic hall is undergoing extensive refurbishment. With this, the City of Eisenach aims to create a space that connects young and old and supports both school and club sports.

Safety through a fire-resistant glass roof
Spanning the space between the two buildings sections is the LAMILUX Glass Roof Fire Resistance REI30, which ensures a fire-protected transition. The skylight withstands fire and heat for 30 minutes, thereby securing essential escape routes in the event of an emergency. Especially in listed buildings such as the Goethe Sports Hall, the combination of heritage preservation, structural stability and safety is crucial. This is precisely what the individually plannable LAMILUX Glass Roof achieves – providing fire protection, daylight and heritage compatibility.

Daylight as a design element in sports halls
Natural light enhances spatial perception, provides orientation and supports concentration during sports activities. Through the glass roof, daylight enters the connecting areas of the sports hall from above without obstruction – a clear benefit for atmosphere, safety and overall well-being. For everyday sports use, this results in improved visibility, reduced risk of accidents and a noticeably higher spatial quality.
