Glass roof for a bright and welcoming learning environment

The Ludwig-Uhland-Schule in Nuremberg relies on natural daylight as a key design element for modern learning. The LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60creates a bright and welcoming atmosphere that positively influences everyday school life.

Daylight as the centrepiece of the new building

The Ludwig-Uhland-Schule in Nuremberg demonstrates what contemporary school architecture looks like: bright, naturally lit spaces that promote concentration and create a positive learning environment. At the centre of the approximately 900 m² new building is a light-filled atrium extending across the entire height of the structure. The Glass Roof PR60 provides pleasant, diffused daylight, while specially designed solar shading protects the space from glare and heat build-up.

Solar shading for a comfortable indoor climate

The fixed solar shading louvres in the glass roof of the Ludwig-Uhland-Schule are precisely aligned to allow exactly the amount of daylight required for uniformed, glare-free illumination of the building. This prevents overheating and creates a comfortable indoor climate – ideal for focused learning and relaxing breaks. Without the need for electronic control, they ensure sustainable comfort in a simple and low-maintenance way. All of this is made possible thanks to the maximum level of individualisation of the glass roof – from the glazing to the overall form.

“One advantage of working with LAMILUX is that planning, manufacturing and installation are all provided from a single source. This minimises interfaces and simplifies coordination throughout the project.”

Safety and fresh air through integrated smoke and heat exhaust vents

In addition, three smoke and heat exhaust vents (SHEVs) are seamlessly integrated into the Glass Roof PR60, ensuring rapid and effective smoke extraction in the event of an emergency. At the same time, together with the three vent openings, they provide controlled ventilation during everyday operation, improving the indoor climate and ensuring a pleasant supply of fresh air. This combination of daylight, fresh air and safety creates a well-designed and highly functional system for the building and its users.
