A new section of the plant for the mobility of tomorrow
At its site in Bernsdorf, TD Deutsche Klimakompressor GmbH manufactures compressors for vehicle air-conditioning systems and employs more than 900 people. With the sixth construction phase, the plant was expanded to include new production and logistics areas as well as an automated high-bay warehouse. Today, the site comprises around 90,000 square metres of building space. At the same time, existing production areas are being prepared for the manufacture of electric compressors. The extensive building structures required a solution that combines natural daylight with a range of safety-related functions.

Natural daylight for extensive interiors
Distributed across the roof areas, the 183 rooflights introduce natural daylight from above into the production and logistics areas. Their opal glazing diffuses the incoming light and supports uniform illumination throughout the extensive interiors. This makes daylight available even in areas where façade windows have only a limited effect due to the depth of the buildings. At the same time, natural daylight can help reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.

Safety in the event of a fire
All 183 rooflights are designed as smoke and heat exhaust ventilators in accordance with EN 12101-2. In the event of a fire, they open automatically and discharge smoke and hot gases through the roof. Particularly at a large production site with many employees, the SHEV solution helps keep escape routes visible for longer and enhances safety in the event of a fire.

Natural ventilation during everyday operations
A total of 27 rooflights are additionally equipped with electric spindle drives and can be opened for daily ventilation. This allows warm and stale air to escape through the roof. Alongside their safety function, the rooflights therefore also play an important role in maintaining a comfortable indoor climate during everyday operations.

Stability and safety on the roof
The rooflight’s characteristic wave shape provides a high level of stability and supports the even distribution of applied loads. All 183 rooflights are also equipped with factory-fitted fall-through protection grids. These secure the roof openings and enhance safety on the roof, particularly during maintenance and repair work.

More functions on a single roof area
LAMILUX Rooflights F100 W enable the roof area to serve several purposes at once: The systems bring daylight into the extensive interiors while also providing important ventilation and smoke and heat exhaust functions. At the same time, sufficient space remains available for photovoltaic systems. In this way, the roof combines a comfortable indoor climate, fire safety and the use of renewable energy on a single surface.
