LAMILUX at BAU 2027 - Building the Future, Naturally

Experience the Future of Building with LAMILUX at BAU 2027

Every two years, Munich becomes the centre of the construction industry, and we once again ask ourselves: What should the architecture of tomorrow look like to enhance well-being, improve energy efficiency, ensure safety, and maximise the use of daylight?

At BAU 2027, we provide the answers through our guiding theme: “Building the Future, Naturally. Natural Daylight. Natural Ventilation. Naturally LAMILUX.”

Discover how natural daylight transforms spaces, how intelligent ventilation and smoke extraction systems make buildings safer, and how durable, resource-efficient materials help adapt and extend existing buildings rather than demolish them, creating architecture that continues to inspire for decades to come.

Building the Future, Naturally – Our theme for BAU 2027

Natural Daylight

Daylight as a key planning factor. Daylight is among the most effective design tools in architecture and one of the few that costs nothing. It regulates our biorhythms, aids concentration and relaxation, and gives spaces a depth that artificial lighting simply cannot replicate. When integrated correctly, it brings the natural progression of the day into the building and seamlessly merges the indoors with the outdoors. The decisive factor is not the amount of glazing, but where it is placed: overhead light is distributed more evenly, reaches deeper into the floor plan, and prevents glare. Incorporating daylight early in the planning stage simultaneously reduces the need for artificial lighting and improves overall energy performance.

Natural Ventilation

At LAMILUX, fresh air and safety are factored in from the very beginning – for everyday comfort as well as in an emergency. Our systems combine daylight with natural supply and exhaust ventilation: ventilation flaps and actuators are an integral part of the design and can be seamlessly integrated into building management systems and controlled via sensors. Together with our subsidiary, roda, we also provide natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems. In the event of a fire, these systems extract smoke from stairwells and industrial halls, keeping escape and rescue routes clear.

This creates sustainable solutions for a pleasant indoor climate that perfectly balance energy efficiency with user comfort. At the same time, intelligent control systems ensure that ventilation, safety, and building automation work together efficiently.

Naturally, with our expertise

LAMILUX stands for innovation and quality. Now a fourth-generation family-run business, we are one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of skylight systems. Drawing on more than 70 years of experience in daylighting, we develop rooflights, continuous rooflights, glass skylights and glass roof constructions, which provide even illumination for industrial and administrative buildings, schools, and nurseries, just as they do for cultural and residential buildings.
Natural supply and exhaust ventilation, alongside smoke and heat exhaust ventilation, are integral components of these systems and can be easily incorporated early in the planning stage. Every product is custom-developed and manufactured at our headquarters in Rehau.

Building the Future, Naturally: KALLE Neukölln

A former department store on Karl-Marx-Straße in Berlin-Neukölln illustrates our exhibition theme in practice. Spanning roughly 40,000 m2, the introverted 1970s building and its multi-storey car park have been transformed into a vibrant hub for work, dining, retail, culture, and a roof garden – following the principle of rethinking rather than demolishing.

Natural daylight is key to this transformation: three LAMILUX PR60 Glass Roofs open up the deep existing structure to create bright atriums. They create vertical connections and transform previously unusable interior zones into attractive, easily navigable spaces, complete with natural supply and exhaust ventilation.

At BAU 2027, this project will demonstrate how successful revitalisation of existing buildings can be achieved: sustainable, bespoke, and without the need for new construction.
