Psychiatric clinic Emmendingen –
safely designed, comfortably built

Architecture between safety and atmosphere

The architecture of forensic facilities places special demands on design: alongside high safety standards, an environment that is as open and pleasant as possible must be created. This is exactly where the concept comes in – with clear structures, bright spaces and a design that supports orientation and well-being.

Forensic psychiatry at a glance

In forensic psychiatry, individuals are treated whose placement has been ordered by a court due to a mental illness. Accordingly, the requirements for safety and structure in everyday clinical practice are particularly high. At the same time, a supportive and pleasant environment is essential – both for patients and staff. The new building at the Centre for Psychiatry Emmendingen (ZfP) addresses these aspects and creates an environment that equally supports safety and therapy.

Natural light used with precision

Façade openings are only possible to a limited extent in such a sensitive environment. This makes a well-planned daylight concept within the building even more important.

With Skylights from LAMILUX as well as the LAMILUX Modular Glass Skylight MS78, natural light is brought into the interior spaces from above in a targeted way. This creates bright, uniformly illuminated areas that support orientation and safety in everyday use. At the same time, daylight enhances well-being, promotes a healthy spatial atmosphere and strengthens the connection to the outside world – while maintaining privacy.

„The modern understanding of architecture goes beyond pure functionality. Through the targeted use of light, spaces are created that convey a sense of openness and security. “

Reliable solutions for sensitive areas

The high safety standards are also reflected in the requirements for the building envelope. Skylights must not only be functional, but above all robust and durable.

High-quality materials such as aluminium and real glass ensure stable construction and long-lasting resistance. Fixed, secure elements and additional safety grilles provide a high level of security and protect the building from external influences. At the same time, the skylights ensure uniform illumination, keeping interior spaces and circulation areas bright and easy to navigate.

Efficient implementation in the roof area

The flat roof windows used are prefabricated and can therefore be integrated quickly and easily into the roof structure. The LAMILUX Modular Glass Skylight MS78 also impresses with its modular design: prefabricated units are assembled on site, enabling large-scale roof glazing.

This allows the roof area to be used efficiently and transformed into a bright, open daylight surface in a short time – with minimal installation effort.
